As one approaches the Mourne Mountains the words of the song writer Percy French ring true as the place “where the mountains sweep down to the sea”. This compact group of mountains are one of Ireland’s most scenic areas and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
There are walks for everyone wither climbing Slieve Donard the highest mountain reaching 848m, exploring the lofty tors of Binnian or Bernagh or the beautiful Annalong Valley.
Whilst trekking up and through this beautiful landscape your local guide will point out the local flora and fauna, tell you stories about the “men of granite” and other interesting facts about the area.
There are young people who start their Award and for some reason miss the planned expedition. As an AAP for the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Gaisce we offer Silver and Gold training, practice expeditions and final assessed expeditions. The Silver takes place in the Mournes and the Gold venues are the Mournes and Wicklow, Scotland and Lake District, we are also qualified to go further abroad, where do you fancy?
